What people ask before the first call
What exactly is x402?
The HTTP 402 status code, used as intended. We answer an unpaid request with the price and a nonce; your client signs a single-use USDC authorization and replays the request.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no signup, no dashboard login and no API key. A wallet that can sign is the whole prerequisite.
What happens if a render fails?
You are not charged. The authorization is never settled, so nothing leaves your wallet.
Can I cap spend?
Yes — per-request, per-agent and per-day ceilings are enforced server-side against the paying wallet, not just in the client.
Is there volume pricing?
The unit price is the same at one request and at a million. Below-cost tiering usually just funds a sales team.
Can I pay with a card instead?
Not today. Settlement is USDC on Base, which is what makes the no-account model possible.
Spend nothing until the first 200.
Point a signer at an endpoint and make a call. There is no account to create.
